Yesterday, my XPS started running very slow. This day I was doing some work using remote server testing my web app. I had opened like 30 chrome tabs like everyday. I was using WiFi from my iPhone. My laptop during work suddenly started running slow on everything, even opening a folder took some time.
Go to Solution. View solution in original post. Yes, it identifies adapter. It clearly detects it because when I disconnect the plug it disappears. My XPS 15 laptop just started doing this and with the symptoms you describe. Not recognising the AC adapter it's a new one from Dell and it is getting hot. Any advice? Very sorry to buy the flagship of dell now at a huge price.

Please, let me know what you think the problem is. I would really appreciate any help!! All forum topics Previous Topic Next Topic. Accepted Solutions. Next would be to check the task manager to see what's consuming the CPU and memory. Oh and my specs are: 4K 4gb gb ssd 16gb ram.
Does the system correctly recognize its AC adapter, or does it show "unknown"? F2 at powerup to check. Is the system running abnormally hot?
Have you run a full diagnostic F12 at powerup on the system? I will check all those things and report to you. Thank you! Excellent condition refers to the battery health, not the AC power source. Does the AC adapter field specifically identify a W adapter? Now I'm suffering from it. Also, the performance is very poor than an i5 Intel processor.
Dell Support Resources.I have run the dell diagnostics which reported no problems. The machine is unusable in Chrome and Edge stutters and lags also. Go to Solution. Please, have a look here on what to do: blog. View solution in original post. It is running much better, but I still can't use Chrome because of the lagging and freezing. I still have not installed additional software to reduce variables. I've done all of that and still can't use Chrome.
Common Problems with Dell XPS 15 9560 and their fixes
Even the new Chrome I have to use Edge as a browser. I also notice that it freezes in Gmail. Unbelievably annoying for a NEW laptop not 1 week out of the box. I am having the same problem - it happens frequently in Chrome, particularly when typing messages in Gmail. I have no problems with Firefox. Browse Community. Turn on suggestions. All forum topics Previous Topic Next Topic. Accepted Solutions. I had the same issue. So I have had this computer for about a year. When I first bought it, I didn't really notice anything wrong, but about 2 months after I did, luckily, I was travelling when I first used it and after those 2 months, I was back on my desktop. Now I am on my laptop again as I am travelling and it's painfully evident that there is something wrong with these computers. I called Dell support and spend half my day reinstalling the OS and drivers to no available.
All the tests read that there were no hardware issues and I have tried every solution I could find - nothing works. Stupid slow. Unbearably slow. When I try to use any two programs at once. It's sluggish, laggy and feels like my computer is having a brain fart. The main issues are when using Chrome this seemed to kickstart it. I should be able to run it on modestly high graphics even on 4k - it's a GTX Ti for crying out loud.
It's immensely irritating. Firefox seems to have the best performance on this machine, but it's still laggy and stuttering. As someone who likes to have music videos or twitch on in the background while I work, this is more important to me than usual I guess.
This is the most expensive laptop I have owned and it is easily the worst performing one. Feeling utterly ripped off. Dell support has been unsurprisingly useless. This is my first and last Dell, I think. So utterly disappointed with the lack of useful support provided and by the fact that it seems I've paid over 2 grand for a web browser machine that does it worse than my phone.
As mentioned in our detailed reviewthe XPS 15 with the Core iHQ processor as well as the with the iH update is prone to two types of throttling:. The first type of throttling is quite straightforward to all but the most uninitiated: the CPU and GPU have temperature limits to prevent damage. Exceeding the temperature max C for CPU, 97C for GPU will cause an instantaneous shutdown—but you should never see temperatures anywhere near that as the components will throttle their performance long before they get to that point.
The GPU will reduce its clocks to keep its temperature below 78C, and the CPU will dynamically reduce its turbo-clocks based on temperatures and power consumption. The second type of throttling is also the result of heat, but because people generally look at CPU and GPU temperatures alone when benchmarking, it went undetected for a long time. Throttling occurs around 78C.
To get your XPS 15 to run at its maximum potential, we will need to solve both these problems. This can reduce the load wattage needed for the CPU by 10W easily. The link above explains how to use ThrottleStop and how to test for stability. The next step is dealing with the temperatures of the VRM head-on. Take another look at this picture:.
The mod is fairly straightforward: cut out small vertical strips from the thermal pad and place them on top of the MOSFETs above the heat spreaders. If you are using 1. Once you have stacked your little padded pillars over the MOSFETs and put the case bottom back on, you should be able to run any game or benchmark without VRM-induced throttling. Cutted a hole for airflow, padded space between lid and alu cooling pad, custom repadded memory on GPU, downvolted and little underclocked GPU and a little underclocked CPU.
Open Dell Command Power Manager 2. Click Thermal Management tab 3. Set profile to Cool 4. Play a game. Good for less demanding games. Would love to know more about what you did as my xps is still throttling after following this articles steps.
I did as described and my temps are down to max 80 degrees celsius in california summer weather with no AC. I would not want to red such an article.
Rather I would be unable to do so, because I am illiterate, and I don't have time. I donut have a kump yooter anyway, and it runs very slow. The only way I can undervolt is to hold a battery over my head. Douglas Black. What about the with iHK? It only costs a tiny bit more than the hexacore i7. So rather than waste all that time doing everything described in this article, why not recommend the i9 instead?I have an XPS 15 which was purchased in May last year.
I have noticed recently that the computer is slow at just about everything. Programs load slowly. Windows File explorer opens slowly. Web pages are slow to open. Is this something others have noticed? Is this something caused by Windows 10 recent updates?
My MacBook Pro is much faster. Any thoughts on why such high end hardware would be so sluggish? Any suggestions on how to speed it up? No viruses or malware are detected. Go to Solution. I had a similar problem, the CPU core was frozen to 0. So working with compiling things were frustrating. I tried to downgrade the BIOS from 1. I can't find any failure, all tests in the bios return pass.
The only thing which helped me: I took the laptop apart and disconnected the battery Li-Ion accumulator of the notebook wait a minute and connect again, and voila - it performs again! View solution in original post. I've spent ages trying to fix this issue, and TomDollar's suggestion of disconnecting the battery was the saviour!
My laptop is back to running perfectly again. Thanks so much.
How to Fix Throttling on the Dell XPS 15 9570 / 9560
Please power off system. Remove all peripherals, and AC adapter. Plug the power cables back into the wall outlet and replace AC adapter.
Please wait a few minutes for the modem and router to fully power on.
After, power on system, hopefully computer is a lot faster. Run the diagnostic tool to check Hardware on the system by following the steps below:. Power on system, quickly start tapping F12 key continuously until you see Preparing one time boot menu in the top right corner of the screen.the TRUTH about switching to PC
In boot menu, stroll down to Diagnostic and click on it. After quick tests, click on hard driveand then Thorough Test Mode. This is fine except that now the processor uses a bunch more power so the battery doesn't last as long. I also noticed that I could resolve the problem by running certain programs that prevented the processor entering C8 mode, like if you open the MaxxAudio app and switch to the microphone tab I have no idea why that tab in particular works, but it doesbut this is hardly a long-term fix.
Go to Solution. View solution in original post. Most of these "slow and stuttering" issues are likely related to thermal throttling. You can check for this in the Windows Event Viewer. It is Event ID The XPS 15 is known to be pretty bad at managing heat. You can Google the various solutions people have come up with. I've had some luck with undervolting my CPU using Throttlestop, but the problem isn't completely solved yet. I am having similar problems. Can barely have 2 programs open before it starts lagging and stuttering and I can't even run the most basic games without some for of lag happening, when I know the should crush it.
I spent all day on the phone with the useless dell support agent reinstalling windows and drivers to no avail. Since it seems like a very common occurrence, you would think they would have a fix out by now.
So frustrating to pay all this money for a worse than phone internet browsing machine. Thanks for the suggestion, but in my case it is definitely related to the switch to the C8 C-State. I'm having the same issue now for months.
It seemed like it all happened after a windows update one day. I've spoken with literally a dozen different Dell technicians and no one can make the computer run the way its supposed to. One even had the nerve to tell me my laptop just wasn't powerful enough This has been the worst consumer experience I've ever had.

However only using it for a couple of hours it is really slow. For searching the web it takes literally 15 seconds to load a new page. The computer has the 7th gen i7, 8 gb ram, and SSD. My older computer which broke was over 5 years old and it only took 3 seconds to load a new page.
I did update my Nvidia Geforce Driver, but did not download a new Windows However I did update the Windows Update. AlJun 23, Does the computer feel slow with other applications? Is wifi reception weak causing slow loading times? Windows uses your RAM for caching to keep things responsive. When I play CW wars client it is not slow at all. This morning things seem to be a bit better.
Should I put a new copy of windows? Will that wipe all the desktop apps I downloaded? Will it wipe my security software?
AlJun 24, If you reinstall Windows, it will generally wipe everything. DRFP likes this.
